Trial Lessons
Want to try gliding?
Then why not have a Trial Lesson!
It's a great way to try something new and experience the delights of soaring flight, or maybe you'd just like to take in the view!
If you are considering taking up gliding, then a Trial Lesson will give you a feel for what is required to achieve the necessary skills. Otherwise simply enjoy the experience of soaring over the North Yorkshire Moors and the Vale of York.
Depending on the weather, your flight will begin with either a tow behind a powered aircraft to around 2000 feet (approx. 600 metres), OR a winch launch to approx 700 ft. It is important to note that the weather will determine the method of launch. After release from the winch or tow aircraft, your qualified instructor will demonstrate the flying controls, and explain how the glider can stay airborne using the various forms of lift generated by the sun and wind.
Your instructor will also give you the opportunity to "have a go" yourself - it's not as difficult as you might think. He/she will guide you through with patience and a steady hand. However, they won't force you to have a go at flying the glider yourself if you decide that you don't want to.
The views are stunning. If you wish to take photos during your flight you should tell your instructor before the flight commences. Your instructor will advise how you should hold and operate the camera safely.
Visitors are very welcome to use our clubhouse and lounge areas. The cafe is open on many days so you can enjoy a drink and a snack whilst watching the gliding activity.
All of our instructors are trained to the standards set by the British Gliding Association. The training to the standard is rigourous, and you can be assured that your instructor will look after you before, during and after your flight.
Cost
The cost of a flight is just £80 which includes three months temporary membership of the club, during which time you can take further flights at club rates. That's a great offer if you think you might like to move on to learn to fly with us.
