Saturday 29th April to Monday 1st May 2023

Saturday 29th. A light to moderate N'ly brought in a low overcast, the result of a slow moving occluded front which kept the site in cloud for most of the day, so there was no flying.
Sunday 30th. The occluded front was still in the vicinity, so although the wind had become a light to moderate S'ly, there was still sufficient and persistent low cloud to prevent any glider flying, although in a brighter spell, the Falke did a series of touch and go landings.
Monday 1st May. A moderate NW'ly blew for most of the day, a generally overcast sky occasionally breaking up to give some brief sunny intervals and some weak thermals. Cloud base at around 2-2,500' QFE allowed 17 ATs to be flown off runway 24, with landings across 24, until a weak cold front brought lower cloud and a brief period of rain around 1530 hrs, the wind then becoming a moderate NNE'ly. 7 of the days flights were for First Flight pupils with all the flying being dual in the clubs two K21s. The lack of lift meant that only 1 flight, that by Fred Brown/Teo Cano Misherachs, exceeded 30 minutes, due to the use of 2 weak thermals each giving a 300' climb and extending the flight to 32 minutes. 4 other flights managed 20-21 minutes, all resulting from weak and brief thermal climbs. The day's longest flight, 59 minutes, was by the Falke which flew up to Coxhoe for a touch and go landing before returning to site.
