Tuesday 27th. A moderate S'ly slowly weakened to become light to moderate as a sunny start gave way to much cloudier skies that finally produced some light rain in the evening. 9 ATs were flown off runway 20, with some weak wave/hill lift extending 5 flight times to over 30 minutes, although no one managed over 57 minutes, this being by Bob Beck/visitor Amy Playle in K21 KLW. Their flight, the second of the day, took the form of a slow climb from their release height of 2,700' QFE (3,600' asl) to a peak of 5,200' asl on a E/W beat between site and Ampleforth, before returning to site. The other > 30 minute flights included 3 for First Flight pupils with the southern ridge being explored as far as Oswaldkirk, although most flights were conducted between the White Horse ridge and Wass. 3 of the Slingsby Week visitors flew, Graham Barrett/ Gary Cuthill in their Capstan, Bob Playle/Dick White in their Capstan and David Weekes in his Swallow, with David having 44 minutes, although Graham/Gary did have a brief thermal climb in their 23 minute flight.
