Friday 29th to Sunday 31st October 2021

Friday 29th.  An Atlantic front brought wet and windy conditions to site, the front clearing the site around 1300 hrs as the moderate to fresh SSE'ly progressively veered into the SW, declining to light to moderate late in the day but the conditions improved too late to allow any flying.

Saturday 30th.  Another wet morning as another front cleared the site around 1100 hrs, but in this case the following rapid clearance allowed an afternoon's soaring on the hill, as the light to moderate wind again veered from SSE to WSW with the front's passage.  8 ATs were flown off runway 24 with most landings on the same runway and all but one of the flights exceeded 30 minutes, although due to the compressed flying day, no one stayed up for over an hour.  DG303 pilots Dave Thompson, 56 minutes and Dave Cockburn, 54 minutes, had the longest flights of the day, with Dave Cockburn climbing from his release height of 2,200' QFE to 3,000' QFE, the only flight to get above release height.   The longest of the 4 two seater flights saw Guy Warcroft and John Marsh have 44 minutes in the DG500, while syndicate partners Thomasz Rusin and Chris Handzlik each had a flight in their DG300.  The day's flying also included 3 for First Flight pupils, with Jamie Quartermaine and Ian McFarlane introducing them to hill soaring.

Sunday 31st.  A deepening depression tracking NE'wards over Scotland meant of day of strong winds, low cloud and rain, the latter amounting to 17 mm and lasting from 0800 to 1300 hrs before clearing to blustery showers. The forecast conditions led to a decision on Saturday to scrub the day.
