Friday 7th to Saturday 8th March 2025

Friday 7th. A warm and light SSE'ly blew all day under generally blue skies but the conditions didn't tempt anyone to fly.
Saturday 8th. The wind had become a light to moderate ESE'ly, the warm air mass resulting in a maximum temperature of 16.3C locally. Operations off runway 20 had to cope with the cross wind, but 15 ATs and 5 sorties in the Falke were flown, the latter including O/Rs to York, Pickering and Carlton Bank as well as touch and go's at site. The conditions were not conducive to soaring with only 2 flights exceeding 20 minutes and none an hour, one of these, Toby Wilson/Josh Jackson's 21 minutes in the DG500, being the result of a 3,000' tow. Dave Latimer taking off in his Ventus 3M, motored up the north facing edge of the North Yorkshire Moors in the hope of finding some lee wave but found none and returned to land after 45 minutes having had an engine burn on the way back and spending a little time in some reduced sink on the southern ridge between the White Horse and Wass.
