Millfield Expedition .

A group of YGC pilots have made what is becoming an annual expedition to the Borders GC at Millfield and the following report by Colin Troise has been cut and pasted from his entry in the YGC Members Forum.
Saturday 1st October. Most of us arrived at Milfield to be greeted by an already operational airfield, complete with sunshine. An executive decision resulted in a rigged DG1000, which then flew twice for a total of three hours, first with Les and Colin, and then with Jim and Polly. Fred flew his Ventus, and there were some flights by the DG800 owners. Conditions were surprisingly thermic but cloudbase was limited to around 2000ft.
Sunday 2nd. A busy day at Milfield. Again conditions were thermic, but with cloudbase at a higher 2700 ft. Most pilots stayed local in the tricky therms, but JE took his DG800 on a 200 kms romp around Duns and Rothbury.
Monday 3rd. The weather gods smiled again, although they had a bit of a laugh with an early morning ground frost. Rasp predicted feeble thermals and a little local, but equally weak, wave. Fortunately the first few tows reported good lift near Akeld Bridge, and the day resulted in most pilots getting into wave, with 8000ft being commonly reported and 10,000 ft recorded by the DG800 pilots who ventured further south from the Cheviot.
