Monday 14th to Tuesday 15th April 2025

Monday 14th.  The wind had become a moderate to fresh S'ly, with scattered Cumulus giving way at times to overcast skies, the conditions aloft being too turbulent for First Flight pupils.   13 ATs were flown off runway 20, with the 4 Private owners who launched, setting off on cross countries and each contributing to the 9 flights of over 30 minutes, 7 of which were over an hour. Those soaring locally for over an hour included Sanjay Nath in Astir DPO, Paul and Polly Whithead in the DG500 and James Shaw/Andy Tyas in K21 KLW, with Paul/Polly having the best average climb rate of the day, 4.3 kts, James/Andy finding some weak wave for a time  and all climbing to over 4,000' asl.  The 4 cross country pilots all battled the strong headwind as the set off to the south, with Dean Crosby in his LS10t completing a 202 km task around Blyth and Pocklington.  Steve Thompson in his Ventus 2bt survived a number of low points but on the way back from Doncaster NW had to resort to his engine near York having covered around 120 km.  Adam Sayer in his ASW 19 gave up going S at Linton on Ouse and returned to soar locally, while Toby Wilson progressed to Rufforth where, finding no useable lift, he landed out.

Tuesday 15th.  Overcast skies and a light to moderate N'ly wind led to a day of extended circuits and no soaring flights from the 12 ATs flown off runway 02.  The longest flight, 20 minutes by Toby Wilson/Reuben Johnson in the DG500, owed much to their 3,000' tow, with those from 2-2,500' tows averaging 14 minutes.
