Saturday 14th to Tuesday 17th December 2024

Saturday 14th A sunny start with a light WNW'ly blowing allowed 12 ATs off runway 24, although the temperamental Flarm receiver only recorded the 2 flights of the DG500, both by John Carter/James Prosser, the first an aborted launch and the second of 19 minutes which included a couple of O/Rs to High Paradise Farm while maintaining around 1700' QFE. Nobody flew for more than 30 minutes with Yuri Kozhgerov's 27 minutes in Astir DSU being the longest of the day, closely followed by Sarah Stubbs 26 minutes in K21 KLW with one of the day's 4 First Flight pupils. Sarah also had a flight in the Falke with Nigel Burke.
Sunday 15th. The wind had become a light to moderate W'ly but its accompanying low cloud meant there was no flying.
Monday 16th . A moderate and at times moderate to fresh WSW/W'ly meant it was a winching day, with 11 launches off runway 24, 7 of which exceeded 30 minutes and 4 an hour. The Flarm receiver decided not to record any flights so I am assuming that all the soaring was by hill lift and/or wave, with the > an hour flights being by Clive Swain/Andy Tyas in K21 KLW, 1:41, Clive/Steve Ogden in the DG500, 1:05, Paul Whitehead solo in KLW, 1:05 and Chris Handzlik in the Discus, 1:12.
Tuesday 17th. A light S'ly steadily increased to moderate as it backed into the SSE, skies remaining overcast and cloud base low enough to restrict flying to a single flight in K21 KLW. Bruce Grain/Mark James having 14 minutes off a cloud base restricted 1300' tow.
