Sunday 2nd. A light to moderate SW'ly blew under generally cloudy skies, the day providing 11 flights over 30 minutes out of the 25 ATs flown off runway 24 over the day. I9 of the ATs were for 2 seater flights with members, 5 Durham University Students and 5 First Flight Pupils flown in either of the K21s and the DG500. Astir DPO was flown 3 times and there were 3 private owner launches, the latter accounting for 3 of the 4 flights of over an hour, with Toby Wilson/Stephen Kellerher having 1:03 in K21 JVZ hill soaring the main bowl but also the W'ly ridge up to Boltby at 600'- 850' QFE. The 3 private owners had flight times of 2:14, 2:47 and 4:57, the two shorter times being by Dean Crosby in his LS10t and Neil Paverley in his Nimbus 2. Both Dean and Neil spent their time hill soaring, with excursions as far north as Black Hambleton and to the Forward Ridge, operating heights being typically 800'-1400' QFE, with some weak thermal and wave assistance. Bob Calvert in his Discus 2 used his engine to venture further W, finding some patchy areas of weak wave around Ripon, Masham, Garsdale Head and Hawes and getting to a maximum altitude of 8,000' asl in the Garsdale Head/Hawes area before returning to site via Richmond, having covered around 200 km. Tim Stanley and Malcom Morgan, both flying in Astir DPO had 41 and 39 minutes respectively hill soaring the main bowl at 800'-1100' QFE.
